Sometimes the complexity of an environment can be overwhelming as was shown in the RU-486 case, and it is the duty of a company to completely understand and manage the environment it operates in. The French scientist Gaston Roussel founded Roussel-Uclaf, a French pharmaceutical firm, in 1947. After Gaston’s death in 1947, his son Jean-Claude Roussel took over and continued to expand the company into the animal health and plant care segments. Jean-Claude grew Roussel-Uclaf into a major world presence in the fields of endocrinology, cardiovasculars, and antibiotics.
