laughed resentfully and said,
"There are worse things because you know I've been in a bad car accident before."
His voice did not shiver as he spoke and for an instant, I thought that he was just joking. Then I noticed the trembling in his lips, and I knew it had to be true.
I was utterly speechless even though I had so many questions to ask. Why did this happen to him? When was his love of cars scarred? How could such a thing happen?
It wasn't just the accident that I questioned. All sorts of terrible things always seemed to happen to Trent. First, his phone was stolen from his locker, then his grandpa died, then his family lost almost everything through the slouching economy and now, the accident.
"Was that the worse thing that has ever happened to you?" I asked finally.
He gazed at me, his lips trembling more than they did before. Then suddenly, a slight smile crept over his face and he said, "I'm just so thankful to God that I'm alive." His answer puzzled me. I didn't......
