When I was asked to read the Grapes of Wrath for my College Writing 1 class I

thought it would be a good read but it will not connect to my life. Well, I was wrong. The

story talks about the Joad family from Oklahoma who had to leave their house, like

thousands of others, after the Dust Bowl destroyed their fields. They migrate to

California where they are placed in migrant workers’ camp along with the others. In the

camps they felt isolation and intolerance from the native Californians. When I read this, I

could not help but relate it to the Palestinian families living in refugee camps. The two

points I felt connected to story to the Palestinian refugees are the isolation from the world

and the intolerance they get from their hosts.

refugee as a person "whose normal place of residence was Palestine between June 1946
