Akratic Person

Akrasia is a Greek word meaning incontinence or lack of mastery (Kraut, 2001). “An akratic person goes against reason as a result of some pathos” (Kraut, 2001). This means you do something that is not right because your emotions are telling you to do something. You are doing things that are not virtuous or working towards eudaimonia. You do activities that have a goal or purpose at the end (Class notes, 2008). You should do activities that have a purpose all the way through. Aristotle knows a lot about actions, habits, character formation, virtue and vice, how bad characteristics came about and the role of pleasure in life. Aristotle would have advice on how an akratic person can change into a virtuous person.
Relating to actions, habits and character formation Aristotle would tell the akratic person to do actions that work towards eudaimonia. These actions would include doing the right thing at all times. The action needs to benefit you along with others.......
