This website discusses the food cycle of the marine world. The food web is part of animal nutrition. It starts with the primary producers which would be single-celled plants like phytoplankton that is near the surface of the ocean, which makes it soak up the sun for carbohydrates used for energy. Zooplanktons swim through the water eating on phytoplankton. An example of zooplankton would be jellyfish; primarily zooplanktons are larger animal’s food. Menhaden then small fish are next in the trophic level. It continues to go up as the animals get bigger. Whales and dolphins are the highest, but they still produce waste which is fed off by other fish and organisms in the ocean. The waste may be either excretions from digestive processes or dead tissue. The food web of the sea goes from phytoplankton to copepods to silversides to mackerel to blue fin tuna which nourishes the apex predator and continues moving up......
