Lowering The Drinking Age?
There has been an ongoing controversy in the United States on whether the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen like most of the world, or if it should stay at twenty-one. Underage drinking has been a major controversial issue for years, yet why is it not under control? According to a former MADD board member, an estimated 1400 to 1700 college students between eighteen and twenty die due to alcohol related incidents a year. Fortunately, the truth is that underage drinking is both under control and no where near as many students die a year as MADD’s gross over-estimation suggests. According to a recent five-year study, conducted by USA Today, only twelve under drinking age students die from alcohol related accidents every year and only 786 college students die a year from any incident at all, let alone 1700 from alcohol alone. That number could easily be lowered by stricter enforcement of Age 21 by alcohol vendors, police officers and campus officials alike, not by lowering......
