M. Butterfly is a play based on a desperate love saga that goes wrong. The play is based on an out of the ordinary story of a French diplomat who stretches on an affair with a Chinese opera singer, not realizing that his lover is in fact a man pretending to be a woman. Rene Gallimard is the main character (based on a real life man named Pinkerton) who gets locked up in a French prison for espionage. The love for a woman(man) is priceless in Gallimard’s mind until he finds out the problems that embrace him in life. His mistaken identity for a woman causes a great deal of pain and suffrage for him in later years, while thinking it is the best thing that has ever happened to him.
Rene Gallimard is a man that leaves from France to go to China for a job position as a diplomat. He struggles with his love life until he meets his wife Helga. He basically settles for Helga because he feels he will never live up to the reputation of a player. He was having a hard time......
