Wearing Headscarves, the Big Problem in Turkey
Just a few days ago, on November 28 the headscarf problem was spotted in the tears of a 17 years old schoolgirl. Tevhide Kütük, the winner of an essay exam in contemporary Turkey was forced to leave the stage during the award ceremony just because she was wearing the Islamic headscarf. Tevhide was shocked and she went through the front seats to talk to the National Education Director, "Why don't you give me my award, my teacher," she asked. "This is a great injustice." The answer was careless: “Just get back to your seat.” The local TV cameras recorded everything and whole Turkey saw the tears of the teenager and the great injustice in modern Turkey. (Akyol) While almost everybody thinks that it is injustice that Tevhide was forced to leave the stage, it is still forbidden to wear headscarves in schools, including universities, and in any public sphere in Turkey.
