Most of the bills and laws that are being passed today are ones affect young people more than any other generation. The same goes for a recently passed house bill, HB 2131. This bill rises the legal gambling age from 18 to 21 in the state of Arizona. Is this bill being passed to help 18 year olds learn to manage their money and not gamble away their paycheck or is this inadvertently hurting the state’s economy because there will not be as much money flowing into the casinos and into the state’s economy?
In the year 2000, HB 2131 was passed which increased the legal gambling age from 18 to 21 and will be effective beginning on June 1, 2003. This not only covered gambling in casinos, but also Indian casinos, buying lottery tickets, horse racing, knowingly allow a minor to be apart of a wagering system and being able to cash a winning ticket.
