Introduction
Global warming has been a hot topic for scientists over the past 100 years. In 1895, Svante Arrhenius, a Swedish physicist, claimed that if levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doubled from the values at that time, the temperature over the Arctic region would increase as much as 8 to 9 degrees Celsius (NASA, n.d., p.1). His research sparked a debate that has led to our current understanding of how anthropogenic contributions of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere has caused the Earth’s climate to warm and will continue further warming (G. Scowcroft, Personal Communication, Sept. 20, 2007).

Since Arrhenius proposed his theory regarding the property of carbon dioxide to trap heat in the atmosphere, global warming has become an issue around the world. There is no question that the Earth is warming.......
