Ideally, parents have, in the past, and always will in the future, play a beneficial and supportive role for their children to use as a guide in helping them grow up. The responsibility of parents to their children is to provide a positive example and to give love and care. The attitudes exhibited by parents help mold the child into an adult and build their structure of moral beliefs. In the novel Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre, the behavior and attitudes of the adults are not typical of responsible parents in today’s American culture. The adults do not exhibit positive examples for their children in the aftermath of the mass homicide crisis, which occurred in their town. They will do anything to escape dealing with the major problems at hand.
