Historic Introduction

A Code of Ethics creates a framework which provides a basis for honesty. The value of the code is only effective and active when used collectively. One member of any collective team can damage its reputation when not providing correct and truthful information. Highlighting university ethics, the most important areas requiring high standards and effective benchmarks today are plagiarism, grade inflation, and admission policies.
Codified tenets for ethical behavior can be traced back to the earliest forms of writing and even beyond. Hammurabi, ruler of Babylon from 1728-1686 BC is credited with establishing the earliest know written code of laws in ancient civilization. It is in his written code of laws that we find the first concrete forms of ethical guidelines.
