They exercised dominion that extended over 3 continents (Asia, Europe and parts of Africa). A popular phrase, ‘from Danube in Hungary to the coast of the Indian Oceans’ this empire constituted of 20 different nationalities and 150 million people against the 4 million in Great Britain.
