Introduction

The concept of Nanotechnology was first presented in 1959 by physicists Richard Feyman. However experimentation did not begin until 1981 by computing company IBM (Nanotechnology now n.d.; Pickrell 2006, p.1). Despite the facts above, it has been recently discovered that nanotechnology has been used by the ancient Romans thousands of years ago (Smith 2006). Nanotechnology involves building or manipulating substances at the molecular level (scale of atoms and molecules). There are many benefits for working at such a small scale. These include increased precision, speed and efficiency. Nanotechnology is one of the fastest growing fields of research in the world. Researchers working on nanotechnology boast claims of possible microscopic robots and large devices precisely manufactured at the molecular scale.
