Reparations
I. Introduction
If American history were capable of having amnesia the American slave trade would be among the first memories to flee faster than a freed slave. This amnesia however would have to undergo a type of metamorphosis not yet recorded in medical journals. It would have to erase the memory of not only the carrier of the affliction, but also that of those affected by that gruesome portion of American history. Those that bore witness to and possibly benefited from the United States use of slave trade to establish its empire would also have to succumb to this amnesia. However, America being unable to completely bleach history of such a dark and embarrassing era, it has managed to prolong any adequate repentance for the violence committed against the African, now known to be the African American.
If there is an ounce of truth and hope in the adage, “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” then without question this must be one of the mottos that the black......
