“In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it” This quotes shows the ultimate power that the government has over the people, the power to remove the number four from the vocabulary and replace its meaning with the word five. I think that its insane to wipe out a letter! Winston stated early in the novel that Freedom was the right to say that 2+2=4. I agree that he is stating and making reference to the fact that they control everything.
He meets Julia, who leaves him the note stating “I love you” (Orwell113) this begins his physical relationship with her. Where they are always together, and he calls it an affair because he is still married technically, where I don’t think that he should consider himself ‘married.’ He and his wife had not seen each other in many years, so he resorts to Julia, who to me seems very strong willed, and caring. Also intelligent.
