Evolution of Waste Concern
Waste Concern grew as a brainchild of Iftekhar Enayetullah and Maqsood Sinha. With formal educations in Waste management, urban planning and intense study on garbage sorting, coupled with a keen observation, the two realized that in better waste management, lay the solution to multiple problems in Bangladesh like:
• Stench of accumulating waste in Dhaka
• Lack of employment opportunities
• Viability of agricultural soil decreasing due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers
• Shortage of land to dispose waste
The evolution of Waste Concern can be split into 4 phases as:
1. Initial Lobbying with the Government (Early 1994)
At first, both Enayetullah and Sinha took up this project as a part time activity and their goal revolved around convincing the Dhaka City Corporation to promote garbage composting.
