Our western philosophy began in 6th century BC in Greece. The word philosophy has many meanings and in my opinion, “Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline� is the most important. The very first philosophers were the Presocatric philosophers. They were intrestid in science, astronomy and, maths . The first presocratic philoshophers was Thales folowed by Anaximander and Anaximenes. Since the time of Thales, Greece is often referred to as the birthplace of Western culture. It is with Anaximander of Miletus that the history of written Greek Philosophers began.
Anaximander was born in the city of Miletus, which is located in current day Turkey. He was one of the pupils of Thales who is considered to be the inventor of Greek maths and philosophy. Together Thales and Anaximander, they created the Milesian School of Pre-Socratic Philosophy which introduced new opinions oposing the popular viewpoint on how the world was organized.
