I Hop

I had been there many times before, usually with family or friends, but as I entered that night I felt a sense of comfort and relief. The slight breeze from the air- conditioner ran across my skin in contrast to the warm humid Texas night that I had been stumbling through for the last two hours. As I entered, a larger black woman came over to me and gave me a warm smile. She asked me if I would like to be seated. I declined and just asked for a glass of water to ease my dry throat. She returned a few seconds later with a tall glass. As I pulled the glass to my lips I felt the water dance down my throat like a stream flowing through a desert. I left soon after offering a small tip to the waitress, which she refused. During the rest of my long walk home all I thought about was the relaxing atmosphere that I Hop had created for me.
