A Look at Love Canal and How it Led to Superfund
Until the seventies, little was done in environmental protection. Companies and business would dump the waste of whatever it was that they were producing into the easiest places they could. Unfortunately, this would have severe repercussions on the environment and the people who live in surrounding areas. The attempt to clean up after these environmental disasters is known as Superfund. To better understand what Superfund is, it is important to know one of the most critical stories of how it began.
Around the late 1880’s a man named William T. Love envisioned a perfect, industrialized city. Thomas Edison’s direct current (DC) power was all the rage and Nicola Tesla had not developed a working form of alternating current (AC) power yet.
