Battle of the Euro
(Issue #1; Labour)
The European market is a large one, in size and population. It consists of many separate countries which all have their own cultures and more importantly for this report, their own currency and banking system. This was true until January 1999 when the euro was introduced. Now the Euro is the single currency in 13 European countries which is called the Eurozone. In this report I will outline why the UK should join the Euro single currency in terms of the former chancellor Gordon Brown’s five tests, creating a large unified European market, and encouraging more company investment in the UK.
In 1997 the treasury outlined five tests that the UK must pass before implementing the Euro currency. These tests are (1) if the UK can successfully integrate into the Eurozone in the long run, (2) is the UK economy and workforce flexible enough to adjust to change and if there are......
