Race and My Community
I was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon to a full Hispanic mother and a half German father. Growing up in my family I never really saw much prejudice or racism due to my family itself being very diverse. I have always had people from many different cultures around me from day one. When I was about five years old my family and I moved to Medford, Oregon where I have been for the last eighteen years. Medford is quite a bit larger than Klamath Falls is and has a much larger population. As the years have gone by Medford has grown as well as its diversity, however, there are still many barriers and problems with grouping and stereotyping.
I am a half Hispanic, half Caucasian woman who lives in a community that is continuing every day do move toward greater diversity. I live in a little block of apartments that have about thirteen buildings with four apartments each. In the complex there is a very diverse......
