Introduction To Expert System

An expert system is a special type of information system or computer application that giving advice or solving problems that would otherwise require extensive human expertise and then imitates human reasoning and decision-making processes for those who have less expertise. Expert systems represent the expertise knowledge as data or rules within the computer. These rules and data can be called upon when needed to solve problems. The unique value of expert systems is that years of experience special skills are not completely lost when a human expert dies, retires, or leaves for another job.

Expert systems thus provide a way to store human knowledge, expertise, and experience in computers. Expert systems are often called knowledge-base systems, and sometimes knowledge systems.
