Economics What is economics? “Economics is the study of the production and distribution of the goods and services we use in everyday life.” (Sowell) It has also been defined by a British economist Lionel Robbins as being the study of the use of scarce resources which have alternative uses. (Sowell) basically meaning that people want more than there is or what they need. The economy is a very diverse system. The economy can be affected by many different variables; as well as affects many different aspects of life. There are several different branches to the economic system. For example: agricultural economics, also referred to as agronomics is a branch of economics that deals with land usage and focuses on maximizing crops. The economy also affects the education system. Presently the weakened economy has left many college students looking for alternative means to financially afford schooling.
