Policing History

Ever since September 11, 2001 law enforcement has been proactive instead of reactive. Being this way law enforcement is doing things to change what could happen instead of waiting for it to happen. For example, “Ashcroft and his aides would not reveal precisely what information prompted their high alert New York State troopers check vehicles as they cross the Brooklyn Bridge. Officials fear a truck bomb is next extraordinary alert.” Stated by author (Cloud, 2001). The September 11th attacks also prompted a wave of support of both our civilian population and Government to increase founding for law enforcement. Such an emotional event caused several other major changes to begin such as better cross communication between branches of Federal and local law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and CIA, all in an effort for public safety.
