1. THE PROJECT
The project is about establishing a terminal market which aims to create an innovative and modern market system. This new market system will include wholesale auction market, backward linkages with farmers as well as cooperatives, forward linkages with wholesalers, exporters, retailers and consumers. The basic activity of the terminal market will be to collect fruits and vegetables from the farmers, grade and sort them and sell them to buyers in fixed lot sizes on a commission basis, thereby eliminating three to five levels of middle men, saving transaction time and help maintain the quality of the produce in the process.
Considering the present scenario, project becomes quite significant for all the stakeholders. The present situation is too inefficient and opaque.
