When people think about the freedoms present in America, the ability to practice religion freely almost always comes to mind. Early colonists lacked these privileges even though they came to this land to worship without opposition from their monarchs and other leaders. In their time, their colony’s rigid set of beliefs guided their actions and thoughts. In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the Puritan belief system laid the foundation for the government established there. Distressed by the lack of religious freedom, people like Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams stepped up as leaders to find these freedoms. Although many of their ideals differed, their actions were similar in nature and the consequences of their actions very much alike also.
