The Renaissance, which translates from French as rebirth, was a period of tremendous change during the middle ages. It started in Italy somewhere in the 14th century and spread throughout the rest of Europe. People of all social cultures were greatly effect by this sweeping movement. Education was greatly affected, traditional ideas of the era were thrown out and thoughts of yesteryears renewed. Many hoped that education could improve the times in which they lived. The belief of the renaissance was deeply rooted in humanism. Humanist believed that the classics of both Greek and Latin literature were vitally important in education. They believe those subjects contained the lessons and the morals that would greatly help a person to lead an effective life and the best models for society.
