The present day CEO is strapped for time. His time gets frittered away on burning operational issues, which push the strategic issues to the background. When he formulates a strategy in the midst of firefighting, the institutional mechanisms are inadequate to carry it forward through implementation. No wonder, it is learnt through empirical studies that only 10% of the strategies are implemented. Throughout the cycle of implementation, there is a lack of visibility on the progress for want of instrumentation on the CEOs dashboard. Then the outcome presents itself unannounced, out of the blue to the consternation of all concerned. A review after the outcome is just a post-mortem, which heralds a start of blame game leading to clashes and blood letting.
