Introduction

The skill which I have chosen to practice is giving constructive feedback. Feedback is essential in our daily communication which makes people feel connected to others. Feedback may have several purposes – it may inform people of deeply understanding about themselves and the effect they have on others; it may expand the person’s range of choices; and it may be intended to support or discourage certain behavior. An effective feedback should be constructive, specific and timely. There are several characteristics of effective feedback:
• Be descriptive but not judgmental; provide information that describes the behaviour and its impact on you (E.g., behavior you have seen and how it has impacted you).
• Give feedback on a specific situation; focus on the behavior which related to specific time and place. (E.g. the same behavior may not have that effect on others).
• Avoid exaggeration ("you always get this wrong"), labeling ("you are stupid"), focus on......
