Foreign Policy Orientation

This paper will look at Foreign Policy Orientation, with regards to what Foreign Policy is and its characteristics. It will look at how Foreign Policy assessment is carried out using Kenya’s Foreign Policy as a case study.

Barston categorizes Foreign Policy into three stages. Where it can either be generalized statements made by a country through statements or communiqués containing the broad aims and the overall interests of the state. The second category used to describe Foreign Policy, is the range of issue areas or preoccupations of the state with regard to its budget, its development. The third aspect of Foreign Policy is the daily operational problems of a country, like state visits, consular concerns or lobbying on a United Nations vote.
