Karl Marx And Max Weber

Weber and Marx are both viewed as founders of modern sociology. Both are interested in economics and how society functions under certain economic situations. They also study how society gets into these economic situations. Their views differ on this point. One of Weber's greatest works, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, identifies religious ideas(obviously focusing on Protestantism) as a reason for the development of economic conditions. Marx says that economic conditions are the base of all other development.
Because Weber believes that there are previous causes to economic conditions in society, he thinks that different societies can grow independently of one another and follow different economic paths. Marx however believes that all of society is on a universal path toward one economic system(Communism). Weber also seems to study history and interpret how societies operate and the reason they operate that way. Marx appears to be more interested in the future and......
