Kawaiaha’o Church


The Kawaiahao Church was built by The First Missionaries that came into Hawaii in 1820. It was almost entirely funded by Kamehameha the Third. It was Built from 1836, where it all began. Until 1842 When the final Stone was set, and the Ceremony on July 21 which had about 5,000 worshippers in it being led by Kamehameha the Third took place. Another Name for this “Great Stone Church� is “The water of Ha’o� or “Westminster Abbey of Hawaii� or “The Church of Ali‘is� or “Hawaii’s State Church� . It was built to teach The early Hawaiians of Christianity and of English ways.
On July 31, 1838 The digging of the foundation begun. The Foundation made of fourteen thousand coral slabs. Which hade to be quarried 10-20 feet under water, hand picked.
