A study, conducted in 1991, concluded that an overwhelming majority of severely obese people believe that others make fun of them, see themselves as physically unattractive and do not want to be seen in public. Most obese people also believe that they are discriminated against when they apply for a job, and confide, their doctor has no respect, for them (NYUMC, n.d.).
The lifestyle of a person whom suffers from obesity is affected in many ways. The physical and psychological health of an obese person is both affected but neither is fully understood by the general population. With all the public information available about the physical effects of obesity, many people are still unaware of just how dangerous it truly is. The psychological effects of obesity are also dangerous but can they ultimately be considered a health risk?
