The Greenhouse Effect: A threat to our Future?
Uganda is feeling the effect of Global Warming. Uganda’s CO2 emission consists of 92% liquid fuels and 8% cement manufacturing. The CO2 emissions per capita in 2003 were 0.06 kt in comparison to the United States at 19.95.
We are seeing huge changes in weather and the physical characteristics of the country, not only has the temperature gone up but there are frequent and severe droughts. The drought periods have occurred because of less rainfall but have endured more storms which have caused flooding, landslides and soil erosion. This is causing periods in the year when the water table is low which results in enormous problems with electricity. It is becoming very unpredictable and supply is now coming from diesel generation. Uganda is very poor and climate change is making it impossible to overcome the struggling population. Our biggest export is greatly affected.
