Statistics have proven that underage drinkers are more likely to become alcoholics than those that wait until they are 21. A person whom begins drinking alcohol before the age of 15 is four times more likely to become dependant on alcohol than those who wait for the legal age. (NIAAA, January 2006) A child is more likely to experiment with alcohol when living in a home with a parent who is an active alcoholic. A teen that experiences this type of home environment is more likely to carry that type of behavior in their personal lives. More than half of the nation’s teenagers will experiment with alcohol before they leave high school. Teens are influenced mainly by their emotions and impulses when it comes to making a decision about drinking.
