In this world there are a lot of people from different cultures and societies that possess unique traits and customs. Cultural relativism is understanding the ways of other people’s cultures and not judging their beliefs and behaviors according to one’s own culture. Ethnocentrism is people or groups that belief that one’s own culture is better than all other cultures. It’s a belief that our own behavior is the best and therefore other people who live differently live immoral or unnatural. Food preferences are one aspect of ethnocentrism. Every culture has preferences for certain kinds of foods and drinks, and have both positive and negative attitudes towards them. I used to always say I didn’t like Japanese food even though I never tasted it before because it looked different. Sushi, for example, is raw and I would think to myself why anyone would ever eat something that looks nasty.
