Nuclear Proliferation

The term “Nuclear Proliferation” describes the spread of nuclear technology, power plants, and weapons. When the U.S. dropped atom bombs on Japan, during World War II, the damage “demonstrated the overwhelming destructive potential of nuclear weapons and the threat to humanity posed by the possibility of nuclear war and led to calls for controls on or elimination of such weapons.” Some treaties that were signed were NPT (Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty), EURATOM (European Atomic Community), and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). Although the world has tried to stop nuclear proliferation, they have failed.
The NPT is a treaty trying to limit the spread of nuclear weapons. It opened for signature on July 1, 1968. There are 189 countries that signed the treaty. Five of the countries have nuclear weapons. They are U.S., U.K., France, Russia, and China. On January 10, 2003, North Korea withdrew from the treaty. On Feburary 10, 2005, North......
