Hamlet’s Second Soliloquy
The beginning of Hamlet’s soliloquy is relevant. Hamlet is watching a player act a scene with a huge amount of emotion; the scene reminds Hamlet of his own problem. It is "monstrous" that the player "in a dream of passion" could put so much emotion into the piece that he even cried "all for nothing", as stated in lines 578- 584. Hamlet is astonished but is also suffering from a feeling of pitiful defalcation because he sees that this player is acting out a speech about a fictional woman who is no more than a character to him, has put a lot more emotion and passion into his speech than Hamlet has into avenging his own father's death. Hamlet loved his father and still continues to mourn for him long after everyone else does, and is thinking how he should put as much emotion as the player is, into killing his father's murderer. "Upon whose property and most dear life, A damned defeat was made" Hamlet states. This soliloquy also......
