Wang Hui, was he a plagiarist? When discussing this question there are several aspects of his work that one must look at. Did he physically steal the art and call it his own? Did he take credit for another artist's work? Did he make exact copies of the artwork in question and refer to it as his original piece? To put in its most basic form, no. All of these paintings were his own. Sure, he based his artwork off of the landscapes that others painted, but what he did was original in its own sense. As quoted by Dr. Hearn in speaking of Wang Hui's art, "they always depart from their model by ingeniously modifying the composition, reworking the structure, and revitalizing the brushwork in ways that are sophisticated and bold.
