In the article there is a case where a man named Kevin Wright for some reason wants a limb to be amputated below the knee. The doctor that he went to in the first place was to consult another reputable physician to back up his reasoning for the amputation. Dr. Robert Smith was the first doctor Mr. Wright went to for the amputation. Dr. Smith referred Mr. Wright to a Dr. George Dodds who did a psychiatric evaluation of Mr. Wright because there was no medical necessity for the amputation of the limb. Dr. Dodds then said that the surgery did not need to take place and that Dr. Smith should not do the surgery either. Dr. Smith going by the medical code should have gone and consulted more doctors and he did not. Dr. Smith went on and did the surgery and Mr. Wright was grateful to him for that because the limb had been bothering him for the last 30 years.
