In the story By The Waters of Babylon, by Stephen Vincent Benet, the author is giving a scenario of how New York would be if we continue like this. The story is about a son of a priest who goes out on a journey. The story takes place in a community of people called “the people of the hills.” The son of a priest has a constant desire to gain more knowledge about the place of the gods (an area east of the river where supposedly the gods live.) His main problem is that during his journey to the place of the gods he doesn’t understand why or how the great burning occurred, and he strives for the truth about what really happened to the place of the gods.
