Music brings inspiration to the avid listener; but music can be interpreted differently by every person. Such is the case of the painters Jean-Michel Basquiat in “Trumpet” and Pierre-Auguste Renoir in “Two Young Girls at the Piano”. Both paintings depict persons playing a musical instrument. These artists came from extremely different school of painting. Basquiat’s paintings were Neo Expressionist (Wikipedia) which was developed in the late 1970s as a rebellion to previous art movements; it incorporates abstract figures and found objects in its paintings (World Wide Arts Resources).And Renoir was an Impressionist; impressionism was developed in 1863 by Manet (World Wide Arts Resources); the paintings looked unfinished and with no detail and they mainly used pastel colors.
