The classic novel The Last of the Mohicans by: James Fenimore Cooper is set in the Summer of 1757 in North America. The main characters Hawkeye, Uncas, Cora and Alice Munro, Maguas, and Chingachgook, are forced to face the challenges of interracial love and friendship in this exciting tale of friendship, love, war, jealousy, adventure, sacrifice, and hatred during the time of the French and British war.

To begin some of the main characters in this story for instance, Hawkeye the leader/hero of the novel, is a white man who has spent most of his life living with among the Mohican tribe. A mix of intolerance, humanity, and strength Hawkeye is able to leave behind most of his European heritage, but he knows he will never truly be and Indian. Uncas is a young red-skinned Mohican who is a member of Hawkeye’s spirited clan, as well as a hero. Uncas represents a race of people who have almost completely died out.
