Leadership Vs Management

There is a challenge in the business world today and it lies on two notions of management and leadership. Management is defined as a process of getting activities completed effectively and efficiently with and through other people (Sharma, 1995). There are many definition for leader or leadership and Howard Gardner (2003) defines leadership as, "A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals.” A leader is a person that influences other people to achieve goals. The more people that follow a leader, the greater influence that leader have. These two terms are different but have distinct qualities and features of each (Colvard, 2003). Managers or management are responsible for demonstrating the four functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
