Obesity in America
In America today, about one third of the population is obese. That is fifty-eight million Americans. For Americans and people across the world, personal fitness is a big part of life. The fight to prevent obesity is a major cause of the recent personal fitness craze. Everyday people create new diets to defeat the monster they call obesity. The reason for the trend toward healthy living is because it is now known that obesity causes many health problems, even death.
Obesity dates back to the creation of man. The oldest evidence was a “statue known as the Venus of Willendorf” found in 1908 (Abramovitz 10). This statue was thought to represent fertility and obesity. Archaeologists found that it dated back to 22,000 B.C.
