Review of Literature
The face is a complex mechanism. It explains the conscious and unconscious movements of different parts of the face, caused by the response to a feeling toward a situation. (Ekman and Friesen, 10) Although its complexity, three types of signals have been distinguished: static, slow, and rapid. The static signals are the ones related with skin colors, the shape of the face, bone structure, and the aspects of the facial features such as the mouth’s position. The slow signals are characterized by changes in the facial structure due to time. Examples of these signals are the development of wrinkles and the change of skin texture as age increases. The rapid signals are produced by movements of the face muscles, which results in short timed facial appearances. (Ekman and Friesen, 10-11) The face does not only show signs, but it also express’s messages.
