INTRODUCTION
The topic of motivation at work has received considerable and sustained attention in recent years among both practicing managers and organisational researchers. One has to only ask first- level supervisors what their most taxing work problems are for the evidence of the importance of the concept to management. (Steers & Porter 1979)
Human resource remains the focal point and leadership the critical component, and motivation has to be tailored to each individual.
This essay will critically examine motivation as an “ X factor’’ to the success of people management in an organisation. The essay intends to concentrate on the effects on the motivational level of employees, using wages and incentives (money) as a reward system.
