Weston tries to capture every element of the African struggles in these four movements. The prelude created by the poem of Langston Hughes, which Weston then put music to headed the start in the direction as to let you know this was a celebration of African Independence. He exuberated the fact of the African people have the final say where they want to go as a culture. He then goes into the second movement and stresses the importance of the African women aspirations. The third movement is a bringing of all African together for the right to have independence. Finally in the final stage, he brings the entire piece together into the celebration that Langston Hughes’ poem had started it off towards, Uhuru Africa! When I think of the many different styles of music showed earlier ranging from Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, to Art Blakey. It shows the wide variety of African music at this time.
