The first primary reason clients (consumers) come to Newark Emergency Services for Families and Individuals because clients have exhausted their welfare benefits. In other words Temporary Assistance for Needy Families provides assistance to individuals for only five years. After that the clients may be eligible for Supportive Assistance for Individuals and Families (SAIF). This program provides clients with additional assistance of up two years, which is equivalent to 24 months. Clients of the program must comply with the rules and regulations of the SAIF because once a case is closed it can become hard to open up again. One must meet with their case manger twice a month.
